Overview

Endpoint Preclinical’s Production-Level Surgical Services were created to solve a long-standing challenge in preclinical research: the reliance on centralized vendors to supply surgical models that must then be shipped to the study site. Traditional approaches from global suppliers often require transport of surgically prepared cohorts across long distances, introducing stress, dehydration, transport morbidity, and recovery variability — all of which can compromise reproducibility, increase cost, and delay timelines.

Through an exclusive alliance with Preclinical Research Associates (PRA), led by Brad Gien, we bring production-level surgery directly into client labs. Models are created and recovered on-site, just steps from housing and study teams. This approach accelerates study readiness, reduces attrition, improves welfare, and ensures greater consistency in surgical outcomes. Our services align fully with the 3Rs, providing a more responsible and scientifically rigorous way to support high-throughput studies.

Service Highlights

Below is a selection of our offerings. If you don’t see exactly what you need, please contact us—we can likely help tailor a solution for your research.

  • Vascular Catheterizations: Standardized catheter placements for infusion and sampling, including jugular, carotid, and femoral access. On-site performance reduces variability and supports PK/PD and toxicology studies. Long-term patency minimizes infection risk and enables extended protocols. Experience with systems from suppliers such as SAI ensures robust outcomes in high-throughput studies.

  • Non-Vascular Catheterizations: Targeted placements for localized assessment of absorption and metabolism, including biliary, gastric, and urinary catheterizations. These approaches support acute dosing and chronic infusion while improving translational relevance and avoiding confounding anesthetic effects.

  • Cardiac & Neuro Models: Creation of high-value surgical models directly in client labs, including myocardial infarction (MI), transverse aortic constriction (TAC), carotid occlusion, intracerebral cannulation, and spinal catheterization. Surgeons consistently achieve target endpoints such as ejection fraction reduction and pressure gradients, ensuring robust, reproducible outcomes.

  • Device Implantation & Telemetry: Extensive experience with implantable systems such as telemetry transmitters (DSI, EMKA, Kaha, Stellar) for cardiovascular, neurological, and metabolic monitoring. On-site implantation supports faster recovery and reliable longitudinal data. Additional procedures include port and pump implantation for controlled infusion or dosing studies.

  • Soft Tissue Surgeries: A wide range of standardized procedures replicating clinically relevant conditions, including nephrectomy, hepatectomy, ovariectomy, prostate ablation, and immune organ removal. These models enable investigations into systemic physiology, organ function, and compensatory mechanisms in disease states.
