Reliable echocardiography data depend on more than obtaining the required views and measurements. Factors such as anesthesia depth, body temperature, hair removal, animal and probe positioning, and sampling location can materially affect the images acquired and the conclusions drawn from them. When these factors are not adequately controlled, technical variability can be mistaken for a biological finding or obscure a genuine effect.
