Professional Summary

Dr. Jessica Durrant is a board-certified veterinary pathologist whose work bridges traditional anatomic pathology with modern digital image analysis, serving preclinical research and therapeutic development across many research areas, including cardiovascular and fibrosis models, and development of cell/gene therapies. Together with the team at DTR Labs, where she serves as the Director of Pathology, Jessica supports preclinical efficacy studies, biodistribution, and non-GLP safety assessments, using histopathology, brightfield and fluorescent IHC/ISH, multiplex assays, and advanced quantification workflows for comprehensive data interpretation. Acting as a phase pathologist or principal investigator, Jessica ensures that every pathology component aligns with study objectives and is communicated through clear, practical and client-focused reports.

Previously a Senior Pathologist and later Director of Digital Pathology at leading CROs, Jessica has built and led teams focused on integrating pathology endpoints into complex studies. She provides consulting at every stage of preclinical study planning and execution, including model selection, tissue collection timing and methodology, endpoint feasibility, and group design.

Core Competencies
  • Anatomic & Digital Pathology: Targeted evaluation of histopathology, IHC/ISH, and multiplex assays, and advanced image quantification for efficacy, safety, and biodistribution studies for therapeutic development.
  • Preclinical Models: Morphologic evaluation and tissue scoring for established and or novel/evolving preclinical models, specializing in cardiovascular disease and fibrosis.
  • Image Analysis & Quantification: Guidance and data interpretation for complex image analysis-based quantification, including for AI/ML-based analyses (Visiopharm).
  • Pathology Integration: Oversight of pathology phases with clear, decision-ready reporting for non-GLP studies, ensuring alignment with study goals.
  • Study Design Consulting: Strategic guidance on model selection, tissue lists, collection timing, experimental group planning, for optimized endpoints
  • Training & Mentorship: Instruction in necropsy techniques, tissue preservation, and pre-analytical process optimization, with a focus on the 3 R’s.
Personal Philosophy

Jessica believes that meaningful translational science and preclinical modeling for therapeutic development begins with collaboration and meticulous planning. Maintaining a holistic view, she is committed to understanding the unique needs for each study and client and then translating these requirements into pathology endpoints. She and her team believe in tackling challenging questions efficiently and creatively, using a variety of histologic and analytical tools. Jessica advocates for humane, yet scientifically rigorous research practices by optimizing study design, ensuring precise tissue collections and assay performance. By translating complex findings into clear results, the value of every study and specimen is maximized.
